Nandita Mukand (b. 1975, Singapore) Works across sculpture, installation and painting creating a juxtaposition of materials, forms and processes. Nandita graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths, College of London where she received the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence. Nandita is an alumna of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and has a degree in Electronics Engineering. In 2008, she made a bold transition from a successful corporate career to pursue her passion for art full-time.
Growing up in the Himalayas, she wants her work to express the temporal aspects of growth and decay, pointing towards the passage of time through the gradual build-up of layers that carry these markers. By including organic materials and dead plants, she works with ephemeral elements that directly evoke the passing of time, deepening her exploration of impermanence and transformation. Through intricate sculptures, she creates a visceral experience that meditates on how we experience time in the city and our connection to nature, with her work reflecting on the idea of lifting that veil.
Her work has been exhibited at the National Gallery Singapore, the Sovereign Asian Art Prize Exhibition in Hong Kong, OpenART Biennale (Sweden), and the Singapore Art Museum, among others. She has undertaken residencies in Spain and Australia and is a two-time TEDx speaker.
