Light and brevity.
Drawn from the Indo -European root semh-, denoting the mood of the season, summer is a burst of light and brevity. The Matthanchére Summer Salon brings together contemporary artworks that revel in this energy, capturing the play of light and shadow, the ubiquitous presence of pedestrians with umbrellas, clear blue skies and timeless nights, and an abundance of harvest and bloom.
Kochi’s history, where winds carried spice-laden ships to the bustling port, has transformed this small lagoon into a potpourri of art and culture. The city remains a stunning blend of past and present, and the exhibition functions as an examination of this temporal hinge, inviting fresh encounters with the familiar. Through close inspection of texture, hue, and edge, the artworks broaden traditional views of locale and duration.
Curated to evoke the spirited essence and ephemerality of summer, the exhibition features the multidisciplinary art practices of Mansoor Mansoori, Latheesh Lakshman, Digvijaysinh Jadeja, Raj Chowdhury, and Sabiha Dohadwala, juxtaposing introspective narratives against expansive landscapes to create a dialogue between reverie and reality.
The Mattanchére Summer Salon hums with Kochi’s warm breeze and old-town charm, a seasonal showcase of artists from across the country.
